Dew Tour :: 8-06-07 ::
This was one of the busiest months for me; I just got back from dew tour and headed to LA for the 13th annual X-Games. Bookoo rider Michael Cleveland was getting into town so I checked him in to the hotel and we headed down to Big Air BMX Practice. The Mega ramp is nothing less then your worst nightmare. Its high, it requires lots of speed and guts. Michael spent some time at Bob Burnquists house earlier in the month practicing on the only mega ramp in the world, but really you can't ever prepare yourself.
Michael geared up for practice with Morgan Wade, Allen Cooke, Kevin Robinson, Chad Kagy, Steve McCann and others. As Cleveland stood at the top of the ramp and took his plunge down I held my breath as he came down the ramp at 35 mph and launching 70 feet. He landed over the top and immediately pulled the brakes. " WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO" were the first words out of his mouth; it was a very loud sigh of relief.
Now that I was finally breathing I watched the rest of practice. The next hour was full of slams and KO's. One of the worlds best bmx Mega Ramp athletes Chad Kagy took a nasty fall, leaving him knocked out for several minutes and a badly broken collarbone! Michael was lucky and escaped injury long enough to make it to prelims. Only 3 Riders get to make it to the final, each rider received 4 runs. Michael had an amazing run doing a double tail whip over the 70 ft. jump. Unfortunately he didn't get to move on to finals, but at this point it didn't matter, he survived!
Finals were to follow and 5 riders were in, Kevin Robinson, Anthony Napolitan, Steve McCann, Allen Cooke, and Matt Hoffman. There was no doubt Kevin killed it that night with a no handed back flip over the jump and a double tail whip over the quarter pipe, that run landed him gold, Steve McCann got the silver and Anthony Napolitan bronze!
Congrats to everyone, Michael your rad!

Dew Tour Cleveland
The 2nd stop of the dew tour was definately better then the first! The fantastic city of Cleveland hosted the Right Guard Open, with amazing views of Lake Erie and the downtown skyline this is by far the most breath-taking Dew Tour yet.
Bookoo riders Dave Dillewaard, Rob Darden and Brian Foster were gearing up for the dirt and park courses for bmx, while skater Jesse Fritsch took to the vert ramp for practice.
As soon as everyone was getting comfortable with the sunny weather, literally a dark cloud came to greet us. The winds picked up and the rain came. Thousands of people were scrambling for shelter. Most of the event staff and athletes met under the hospitality tent, but soon came to realize it was flooding under the big white tent!
The weather put a damper on Bookoo skater Jesse Fritsch, the wind made his qualifying run down right difficult and Fritsch missed qualifying by 1. ( Don't worry Jesse , you will get them next round!)
The next day was BMX dirt finals. All of the riders got together to represent for there fallen fellow rider Stephen Murray by wearing a "Stay Strong Murray" shirt who last dew tour suffered major damage to his spinal cord in is currently paralyzed. With Dirt finals underway it was one of the hardest events to judge. Ryan Nyquist, Corey Bohan and others were laying down the sickest runs. By the end of the night, the thousands of spectators were eager to see who would take home the top 3 spots. Finally the announcer came in with the verdict. 1st place Ryan Nyquist, 2nd place Corey Bohan, and finally 3rd place going to Luke Parslow. Unfortunately our Bookoo team did not hit up the podium, but you can be sure Portland will be a different story!

Dew Tour Baltimore :: 7/02/2007
I think everyone was excited to head out to the first stop of the 2007 Dew Tour. As soon as I boarded my flight it seems as though this trip was doomed! I had a connection in Chicago, which was stuck on the runway for almost 2 hours, then what should have been an hour and 20 minute flight ended up almost a 3 hour flight because of bad weather!
I finally landed in Maryland, waited 45 minutes for my bags and got to the hotel.
I quickly hit the hay so that I could adjust to the 3 hour time change and wake up in time for registration. The next day I got geared up for the long day ahead. I checked out the courses, figured out where everything was and by that time I had to round up the guys for a dinner with my boss. We headed to the Hardrock caf? where we sat down in time just to witness 270 ten year olds screaming to the song YMCA. I don't think there was enough alcohol in that place to numb the piercing sound of their voices. We made a long night of it and we all headed back to the infamous Sheraton hotel bar, I had to escape a bit early to avoid the consequences of staying out too late.
The rest of the week went as wrong as it could, cancelled practices due to weather, super windy days and confusion. But nothing could prepare what happened the night of bmx dirt finals. Im sure most of you know, this was taken from Stephens myspace:
" On Friday June 22nd at the AST Dew Tour BMX Dirt Finals in Baltimore, MD, Stephen Murray took a horrific fall on the final set of the dirt section while sending a double back flip. Stephen has received career -ending injuries to his spinal cord and vertebrae."
Stephen basically flew through the air with so much force and landed directly on his neck.
The crash seemed like it happened in slow motion, the crowd was silenced, every athlete, every single person at that event was in shock about how horrific this crash was. I ran over to Stephen, but stood back so that the medics could do their job. Minutes ticked away as if they were hours, and as the medics took Stephen away the crowd started chanting, " Stephen, Stephen, Stephen?" That night we watched a hero fall, we watched man who's passion was only to push the sport he loves into greater heights and entertain millions. The Murray needs your help please visit his myspace and donate
Please visit www.myspace.com/murraystrong to learn how to help Stephen and his family.
